Is it your first time coming to BE Fit Hervey Bay? Congratulations! The hardest part is walking in the door and then it all becomes fun after that :)
The most important thing with any of our classes is we want you to have fun. It's your workout so if any moves don't feel right then we can adapt anything, we want you to have a break whenever your body needs it and we want you to enjoy it and have a good time.
Zumba® and Aqua Zumba® Classes:
What is the difference between Zumba® and Zumba® Gold?
Zumba® or Zumba® Fitness classes are Latin-based dance fitness classes. We use the Latin rhythms and music as well as all world music to put together a wonderfully fun hour of dancing that just so happens to be exercise. We want you to have so much fun that'll you'll forget you are working out! You don't need to worry about remembering steps or the songs, I do that and I'll lead you through the class with my cueing so relax and just enjoy the experience and let me put my memory to the test :)
Zumba® Gold is a low-impact class. It is still full of all the Latin rhythms and songs but they are adapted to take out the jumps and turns and the classes have a focus on balance and coordination. These classes are excellent if you are looking for a low-impact version, perhaps you are recovering from an injury or your knees just don't love the jumps anymore but they are also wonderful classes for people looking to introduce themselves into Zumba® as well. With Zumba® Gold classes you will find I will keep the same playlist for a while as well so you can get to know the songs a bit more and get comfy with it all.
Arrival Time:
For your first class, just arrive about 10-15 minutes earlier so I have time to introduce myself and have a chat. I'll have a form for you to complete on the day (you can see this info under the Fitness Waiver section). This just has your contact details and emergency contact information if it is ever needed. There is also a fitness waiver and a waiver to use your photograph. If for any reason you do not want your photograph used, that is absolutely fine. Just don't sign that section and if I ever get the camera out at any point (I rarely do but you never know hehe!) just step aside and I won't question why you don't want to be in a photo x
What do I wear?
The best thing to wear is something you feel comfy dancing in. Usually most people wear leggings or shorts and a t-shirt or singlet. Some good supportive runner-type shoes are a must as even though we are having fun, we are still exercising so we want you to be safe.
What do I bring?
Bring along some water and a sweat towel, and your sense of fun!
Anything else?
At your first class I'll give you a free class pass to use for a future class so you'll get two-for-one right off the bat! How good is that!
Also, be reassured that I have a wonderfully friendly group who are incredibly welcoming. We just all want the same thing - to have fun, get fit and dance!
Aqua Zumba® Classes:
What is Aqua Zumba®?
Aqua Zumba is a water based form of Zumba®. Basically you are in the water and I am on the pool deck instructing. We use the natural resistance of the water to create a great workout and we combine that with all the music and joy that comes with Zumba®. Aqua Zumba® classes are suitable for all fitness levels and the workout can be adapted to suit how much of a workout you like - if you like a harder workout then you can really go for it in the water and push yourself! Similarly, it's a wonderful workout for people that prefer less impact or are recovering from an injury or anyone who might be starting Zumba® classes for the first time....in the water no one can see you hehe!! You can really let loose and have fun.
Arrival:
For your first class, just come a bit earlier so I can have a chat and introduce myself. When you arrive at the pool, let the lovely reception staff know you are here for Aqua Zumba®. They'll get you to write your name in the attendance book and take the payment for the class. They'll then direct you down to us in the 25 m pool. We are lucky ducks as we are in the undercover and heated pool. Don't expect a sauna though, we are still working out so you don't want it too hot but it should be enough to be nice to get in and then I'll warm you up further in a flash.
What do I wear?
Most people will wear togs. Some add a zip-up swim shirt or rashie over the top to give a bit of warmth in the winter months. If you feel the cool you could even wear leggings in the pool too, basically whatever makes you feel comfortable. A good tip is to bring something easy to pop on straight after getting out, particularly in the cooler months. A class favourite is a dressing gown as it is lovely and warm and easy to wash.
What do I bring?
Bring along a towel, something warm to pop on afterwards (as above) and some water (if you bring it in a non-glass drink bottle then you can keep it at the side of the pool if you wish). Also don't forget your enthusiasm and sense of fun!
Anything else?
Really just come ready to have fun. I'm blessed to have a friendly bunch of people that come to classes so we'd love to meet you and you'll have a great time. With Aqua Zumba® classes I tend to stick to the same playlist for a month or so. That way you have time to get used to tracks and really start to feel them and go for it in different parts :) After a while I'll make a few tweaks to the playlist but still keep some parts familiar so you can relax and enjoy it.
